Introduction to the history of Karate

Our History

Okinawa is the birthplace of karate.  It has been practiced in okinawa for longer than the United States has been in existence.  There are several styles practiced today.  The 2 main groups are Shorin-Ryu and Goju-Ryu.  We study Kobayashi Shorin-Ryu Shorinkan Karate.  My Karate lineage is; Renshi David Rogers, Kyoshi Nabil Noujaim, (Sensei Robert Sabella), Hanshi JuDan Shugoro Nakazato Sensei, Chibana Sensei, Itosu Sensei, Matsumura Sensei, who is considered the father of Okinawan karate.  The Essence of karate is Kata.  Kata are a set of movements originated by ancient karate masters, and passed down "without changing anything at all" through the years.  Kata is practiced together with physical conditioning, sparring, and the study of kobudo, or traditional okinawan weaponry.
